The research is concentrated on physical, chemical and biological changes and processes of the Quaternary period, mainly based on well-dated terrestrial and marine stratigraphies. The main aims are paleoenvironmental, paleoclimatic and paleogeographic reconstructions, and to analyse and understand underlying causes behind local, regional and global changes as well as their impacts on the environment. The main purpose is to gain an increased understanding of the complex Earth System and its most recent geologic history.
